Speech can be difficult and confusing for many children who struggle to be understood.
Children learning to talk benefit from seeing and feeling instead of just hearing sounds. Jill Hicks, retired speech-language pathologist and mother of a child with Down syndrome, developed a powerful tool to help children make sense of speech sounds. Many, many children are saying more sounds, words, and sentences using this effective yet simple system of hand cues. The hand cues show visually what the sound is, and since they are based on how and where each sound is made, they are intuitive and are easy to learn. The hand cues make sense!
