Sounds Starter 1 DVD & Photo Card Set
Help your child with his or her first sounds. This DVD will help you work with your child over the threshold to speech. The DVD focuses intensively on the most important first sounds using a multi-sensory approach based on Phoneme Touch & Say™, using visual support, music and imitation.
The Touch & Say™ Sounds Starter 1 DVD has been specifically designed for children who are not yet using speech as their primary means of communication, including those who are late talkers, and children with learning challenges such as those with apraxia of speech, hearing impairment, Down syndrome, autism, or global developmental delay. This DVD is designed to be used at the beginning stage of speech for children who are just learning to imitate sounds and words.
The Touch & Say Sounds™ Starter 1 DVD contains video segments for six phonemes (speech sounds), presented one at a time, using music, as well as visual and touch support. This DVD uses the Phoneme Touch & Say™ (PTS) hand cues that allow for multisensory learning, as they give additional visual information about what the sound is, and additional tactile-kinaesthetic information about what the sound feels like. Identifying and learning to say speech sounds is complex, especially when the child is relying almost exclusively on the auditory signal. That is why the PTS hand cues are so useful-they give children extra information to enable them to see, hear, imitate, and say sounds.
